The Middlesex County Bar Association (MCBA) Lawyer Referral Service is a public service to help you find a qualified lawyer who has experience with your particular type of legal issue.

If you request a lawyer online, the name, address and phone number of an experienced attorney will be emailed to you instantly. If you call, a trained staff member will interview you to determine the nature of your legal problem and then provide you with the name and telephone number of a qualified lawyer. The interview is FREE and takes less than five (5) minutes.

You will have to contact the lawyer to set-up the initial 30-minute consultation. The consultation costs no more than $35 and depending on the type of case, it may be free. After speaking with the lawyer, if you would like another referral, you may send another email or call the service again.

Please note that the service is email or "phone-in" only. The Bar Office does not have attorneys on staff, cannot answer legal questions and does not provide referrals in the office.

What to expect from the first meeting with the lawyer

The initial consultation will help you determine whether or not you need the services of a lawyer and if so, what the cost of those services would be. You are under no obligation to hire the lawyer. You are advised to take advantage of the reduced-rate initial consultation (no more than $35 for a 30-minute consultation) and to prepare your questions for the lawyer in advance so that all of your concerns and questions are addressed. If you decide to hire the lawyer, also known as "retaining the lawyer," you will be expected to pay their normal and customary fees.
